Presenter's Biography:

Hinson is a Solicitor Advocate specialising in construction and engineering law. He started his career as a quantity surveyor before being admitted as solicitor and has since developed a deep understanding of his clients' commercial interests and technical skills. Hinson has handled numerous arbitrations and litigations involving major infrastructure projects and is experienced in liaising with quantum, programming, structural engineering and geotechnical engineering experts. Other than arbitration, Hinson's practice also includes an established track record of health and safety and regulatory cases.

Hinson is a Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, and listed on the HKIA & HKIS Joint Panel of Arbitrators. He has also been granted Higher Rights of Audience (HRA), for rights of audience before the High Court and the Court of Final Appeal in civil proceedings.

Ivy is a chartered quantity surveyor specialized in claims consultancy and quantum expert witness works in both local and global construction practice. Her areas of expertise cover contract administration, claims management, disruption analysis, expert witness work and quantity surveying work for mega scale multi-disciplinary civil infrastructure inter alia power plant, oil field, hospital, cross-border facilities and airport together with various types of building projects in relation to mediation, arbitration and litigation.

Ivy is a Fellow Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is also a practicing general mediator, construction adjudicator, a visiting lecturer at local University and a presenter invited by various professional institutions from the UK, India and Hong Kong.

Construction claims are an indispensable process and found in almost every project. They involve many resources and parties, and have a significant effect on project cost and time. It is therefore a process that requires efficient and effective management throughout the entire life cycle of a project. However, more often than not, construction claims are poorly managed and the main source of disputes resulting in strained relations and wasted resources.

We will walk you through a typical construction project, sharing our experience on how to effectively prepare construction claims and be ready for the eventual dispute resolution procedures if on-site resolution is not practicable or falls through.
