Professor Michael Wilkinson Professor Michael Wilkinson
Former Head of the Department of Professional Legal Education and Chairman of the Faculty Board, The University of Hong Kong

Professor Michael Wilkinson was born in Manchester, England and was educated at Cambridge, where he obtained his law degree and masters degree. He was admitted as a barrister of the Inner Temple in 1968. He joined the University of Hong Kong in 1982 as Senior Lecturer and was promoted to Professor in 1997. Having reached the age of 70 he is now an Adjunct Professor at HKU. He was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1990 to 1991 and Head of the Department of Professional Legal Education from 1991-1993 and 1996-2005. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Law Faculty from 2005-2015. He is the University's Public Orator. He has written numerous books on Conveyancing, Civil Procedure (he is the writer of Halsbury's Civil Procedure), Advocacy and Professional Conduct.

Alfred Chung Ping CHENG Alfred Chung Ping CHENG
Barrister-at-law, Alan Leong's Chambers

Alfred read law at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Cambridge. He was the Bar Scholar in 2005 and started his practice as a barrister in 2006. His practice mainly involves civil work, concentrating on administrative law, commercial and personal injuries cases. In 2008, he was the research assistant to the Judiciary for the Civil Justice Reform, providing materials for training courses attended by judges and judicial officers. He is a CEDR accredited mediator. In May 2016, he was appointed a Deputy District Judge.

He has been teaching at the University of Hong Kong since 2006, and at the Chinese University of Hong Kong since 2018. For the undergraduate degree, he taught Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Tort Law, Equity & Trusts, and Legal History. For the PCLL course, he taught Civil Litigation & Advocacy, and the Personal Injuries elective.

Jolie Chao Jolie Chao
Barrister-at-law, Bernacchi Chambers

Jolie attained her LLB and PCLL at the University of Hong Kong in 2003 and 2004 respectively. Since commencing practice in 2005, Jolie has developed a broad mixed practice.

In her civil practice, Jolie specializes in personal injuries, employees' compensation, medical negligence, land and building management cases. She received regular instructions from the Department of Justice (Civil) to act for different government departments including the Fire Services Department, Buildings Department, Department of Health, and Hong Kong Police Force in civil hearings such as coroners' inquest and disciplinary hearings.

In her criminal practice, Jolie has extensive experience both on the prosecution side and on the defence side in all levels of Courts. She has appeared as junior counsel in the Court of Final Appeal in Vivien Fan & Ors v HKSAR (2011) 14 HKCFAR 641 and HKSAR v Leung Kwok Hung & Ors (2007) 10 HKCFAR 148.

Dr. Davy Wu Dr. Davy Wu

Davy's research interests include company law, corporate governance, and corporate rescue. He attained a doctorate degree in law from The University of Hong Kong and a master's degree in business administration from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was a member of the Advisory Group on Modernisation of Corporate Insolvency Law (appointed by the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau of the Hong Kong Government). He is a director of a professional diploma programme in insolvency for the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also an independent non-executive director of Goal Rise Logistics (China) Holdings Limited.

Ian Lee Ian Lee
Teaching Fellow, School of Accounting and Finance,
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University


Ian has been involved in professional examinations for over 10 years. He was an exam-trainer for students attempting the professional CPA examinations, and was subsequently responsible for overseeing the tax and law examination papers for foreign CPAs applying to practise in Hong Kong. He was also the Technical Director of an international firm where he provided technical advice to clients and in-house training to staff members. Ian completed the Master of Education degree from the University of Hong Kong, and the Juris Doctor (JD) programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong where he was a recipient of the JD prize from 2007/08 to 2009/10.

Ian currently teaches Business Law and Company Law, as well as Understanding Financial Statements and Solicitors' Accounts of the Postgraduate Certificate of Laws (PCLL) programme.

David Tai Wai LAI David Tai Wai LAI

David obtained his J.D. (Distinction) and P.C.LL. at the City University of Hong Kong, after having studied economics at the University of British Columbia and international taxation at the University of Sydney. David is also a Chartered Accountant (Australia) and Certified Public Accountant (United States), and holds various other professional qualifications in accounting and taxation. David worked in the Big 4 accounting firms, and then joined the academia to teach accounting and taxation subjects. He has published in the Hong Kong Lawyer and the Hong Kong Law Journal.

Justin Woo Justin Woo
Lecturer, Department of Professional Legal Education,
The University of Hong Kong


Justin obtained his various academic qualifications from the London School of Economics (B Econ, M Econ), King's College London (LLB), the University of Hong Kong (PCLL) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (MBA). He was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and practiced as a commercial litigator in a number of leading international law firms in Hong Kong, before joining a number of leading global investment banks in Hong Kong, working in the field of regulatory legal and compliance.

Justin has also been teaching the PCLL both on a full-time and part-time basis since 2007 at the University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong, covering a number of subjects including e.g. Civil Procedure, Legal Drafting and writing, Professional Practice and Management, and Financial Regulatory Practice, to name a few.

Justin joined the Department of Professional Legal Education at the University of Hong Kong as a lecturer in 2016. He currently teaches Civil Litigation, Commercial Dispute Resolution and Professional Practice and Management for the PCLL.

Senia Ng Senia Ng
Barrister-at-law, Martin Lee SC's Chambers


Senia read law at the University of Hong Kong and obtained her LLM (Specialism in Human Rights) (Distinction) at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Senia called to the Bar in 2014 and has a broad, predominantly civil, practice, with particular focus on judicial review. She is currently involved in a number of judicial review cases against the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, the Secretary for Justice, the Clerk to the Legislative Council, the Legislative Council Commission, the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Appeal Panel (Housing). She also represented the Coalition of Victims in the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead Found in Drinking Water in 2015-2016.

Senia has been teaching at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong since 2015, and has taught undergraduate students Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Legal Systems. She is also an elected member of the Chief Executive Election Committee (Legal Subsector) and a member of the Standing Committee on Civic Education of the Hong Kong Bar Association.
