Presenter's Biography:

Bennett is a barrister with a broad civil and chancery practice. He specialises in and is frequently instructed on land, property, trusts, construction and building related disputes. Prior to being called to the Bar, he served as a Judicial Assistant at the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal. He also earlier qualified as a solicitor upon completing his training at an international law firm.

He has over half a decade of experience as a law lecturer and was appointed to teaching and lectureship positions at all three law schools in Hong Kong, teaching particularly land and property related courses. He recently co-ordinated a course on "Law and Valuation".

Outside of his practice, he has published widely in various areas relating to land and property law and is cited in Hong Kong and beyond, including notably in the leading practitioner's text, Snell's Equity. He is also member of various committees of the Hong Kong Bar Association, including the Standing Committee on Legal Education, and the Committee on Land, Trust and Probate.
 
Objective:

This course aims to provide participants with a refresher and update on recent developments in the area of property, land and building management.
 
Outline:

  • Refresher and Review of some recent and important cases, including some of the recently considered Court of Final Appeal decisions, covering topical issues involving: -

    • Trusts of Land / Co-ownership
    • Registration and Priority
    • Leases and Licences
    • Easements
    • Building Management


  • Practical implications of some these cases will be discussed.
